Aromatherapy utilizes the essential oils from plants and other aromatic compounds to revitalize and relax the human mind. Aromatherapy essential oils are the pure essence of plants, known to cure certain forms of illnesses. One should know that these essential oils which have a pleasant and calming odor are not the same as perfume oils or fragrances. Perfume oils contain artificial compounds, as against the natural essential oils, which have therapeutic and curative benefits.

Aromatherapy seeks to find the effects of various aromas on human behavior. It can be taken through inhalation. Aromatherapy essential oils also can be absorbed by the skin through massages, compresses and baths. It can be absorbed through the mucous membrane through gargles and oral rinses. Ingestion is also another form of aromatherapy.

Using the essential oils in its pure state is just one facet of aromatherapy. In addition, it can also be blended with infusion, hydrosols, carrier oils and phytoncides. Infusions are the aqueous solutions of plants. Hydrosols are like rose water, aqueous derivative of the product after distillation. Phytoncides are natural volatile organic compounds extracted from plants. Carrier oils are often used to dilute essential oils. A case in the point would be the almond oil.

One cannot talk enough about the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy essential oils. It is quite useful for metabolism and the nervous system. One has found a positive impact of aromatherapy in reducing depression, curing insomnia (lack of sleep), and healing acne, joint pains, stress, common cold and other type of diseases. The essential oils of aromatherapy are quite beneficial for dry skin also. It helps make your skin glow and prevents the onset of wrinkles.

Aromatherapy essential oils comprise of avocado, grape seed, jojoba, olive, sesame, sunflower, rose hip, peanut, sweet almond, cocoa butter etc. These are commonly used in aromatherapy. One can make aromatherapy at home by blending eucalyptus, lavender, rosemary, nutmeg and peppermints in the base oils and adding a few drops of basil in the mixture. You can imagine the comfortable and the soothing aura that envelopes you when you add aromatherapy essential oils like lavender and rose drops to the water before you immerse yourself in a pleasurable bath .

Aromatherapy essential oils have antibacterial and antiviral properties ingrained in them. In fact, the basic elements of aromatherapy are essential oils. These oils are highly concentrated and should always be diluted before you apply them on your skin. Certain oils can cause allergic reactions. You can always consult a professional aromatherapist in case of doubt. Not all essential oils should be used in aromatherapy. Onion, garlic, wormseed, wormwood, camphor, wintergreen are some oils that should either be avoided or used only after consulting an aromatherapy practitioner.

Aromatherapy bath salts are one of the quickest, easiest goodies to make for the bath – and one of the most healing. With just a few simple ingredients you can make your own aromatherapy bath salts to ease your aching back, calm your frazzled nerves or relax yourself for a deep, restful sleep.

We all need down time, and we all need to have fun. Life is so busy these days that it can be hard to carve out the time. Making your own aromatherapy bath salts is a great way to give yourself a break.

First, you give yourself some ‘fun’ time by making your scented bath salts – mixing, stirring, smelling… and, most especially, experimenting. Don’t be afraid to blend together a few of your favorite essential oils to create your own custom scent. Play! The creative process is half the fun.

Second, you actually have to lie in the bath for a while (here’s your down-time) to use your aromatherapy bath salts. Give yourself candles, a glass of wine or tea, soothing music – all those good, stress-draining, nerve-calming accessories. Lock the door and slide into warm, scented bliss – your own hand made, master crafted aromatherapy bath salts, created just for you!

    Aromatherapy Bath Salts Quick Trick

If you honestly don’t have time to make bath salts but you still want some aromatic down-time in the tub, try this instant ‘cheat’. Add 1 to 2 cups of Epsom Salt to your hot running bathwater. Pour a tablespoon of vegetable oil (any type will do) into a small glass. Add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil. Adjust the water temperature and slide into the tub. Pour in the essential oil mixture and swish it around a bit. Lie back and relax.

10 Minute Aromatherapy Bath Salt Recipe

    3 cups Epsom Salt
    1/2 cup Baking Soda
15 drops of your favorite Essential Oil (or one of the blends below)
Optional: 10 drops of your choice of food coloring

Measure salt and baking soda into a large glass, ceramic or stainless steel bowl (not plastic – it will absorb the essential oils.)
    [Three minutes]

Stir together the salt and baking soda using a metal spoon (a wooden spoon will absorb the essential oils.)
    [One minute]

Drop in the essential oils and food coloring, placing each drop in its own little spot on top of the salt.
    [Two minutes]

    Stir until thoroughly mixed.
    [One minute, maybe two]

Pour your essential oil bath salt mixture in a dark glass or PET plastic jar. Click on the following link to learn why you should use dark glass. http://www.easy-aromatherapy-recipes.com/storing-essential-oils.html
    [One minute]

That’s it! Nine minutes (plus one extra for spills or finding your glasses.) Quick, easy, painless!

It’s best to let your aromatherapy bath salts cure at least 24 hours before using them so the salt can really absorb the aroma.

Use about one cup of salts per bath. This aromatherapy bath salt recipe makes enough for three baths.

Learning to use aromatherapy is a great way to relax, unwind, rejuvenate and uplift your spirits. It can also be a good way to start a romantic evening with that special person. If you are a beginner to aromatherapy the aromatherapy guide below will help you to uncover basic, introductory information in the practice of aromatherapy.

It is also important to learn how to store and care for your essential oils properly. A good aromatherapy guide will instruct you to store your oils in dark glass, such as cobalt blue or amber, bottles only. These bottles should then be kept in a cool, dark location. A wooden box is a good location and also portable.

When selecting and purchasing essential oils for aromatherapy, purity is key. Opt for a local health shop rather than a cosmetics store and check the labels to avoid chemical copies and reconstituted products.

The best essential oils have essences that have been extracted using steam distillation, expression, solvent extraction, maceration or effleurage. How do you know you have the good stuff?

Aromas have a way of releasing certain chemicals in our body which in turn give rise to many emotions. Chemicals like endorphins, enkephalin and serotonin are released by the introduction of various aromas. These chemicals released in the body make us relax, reduce pain and give us a sense of wellbeing. The olfactory nerves transfer the smells to the limbic system in our brain immediately. That is why aromatherapy has an immediate effect on us.

An aromatherapy massage is a great way to relieve stress and show someone how much you care about them. In order to ensure an aromatherapy massage provides physical and emotional benefits without causing potential injury; however, it is important to follow safety guidelines.

First, always keep in mind that the oils used in aromatherapy are flammable, so use care when using near open flame.

It is also important to remember that you should never using painful or hard pressure during an aromatherapy massage. While hard pressure may feel good if the person is particularly tense, the best method is to use gentle movements in order to avoid possible injury.

In addition, avoiding directly massaging bones during an aromatherapy massage as this can cause injury. If an area has been fractured, always avoid this area to avoid possible re-injury. It is also important to avoid any areas that are infected.

    How Does Aromatherapy Work?

Various essential oils have different uses. If you have ever walked through a pine forest you will know that the aroma from the trees is very refreshing. If it was a holiday experience you might consider how marvelous it would be, if you could bottle that wondrous smell and take it home! You can do just that because that is what aromatherapy is partly about. Bottling nature so you can take it home, add a few drops to your bath water, sit back and create a holiday experience in the privacy of your own home. Using aromatherapy in this way is doubly effective as you derive benefit from inhalation, and through the skin.

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile liquid plant materials. It is a holistic treatment of caring for the body with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. Essential oils are complex, highly fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility. Aromatherapy, as it is practiced today, began with the Egyptians, who used the method of infusion to extract the oils from aromatic plants which were used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes as well as embalming. Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing fields in alternative medicine. It is widely used at home, clinics and hospitals for a variety of applications such as pain relief for women in labor pain, relieving pain caused by the side effects of the chemotherapy undergone by the cancer patients, and rehabilitation of cardiac patients. In Aromatherapy it is held that once extracted, the chemical constituents of a particular essential oil will determine its primary action. Generally, essential oils consist of chemical compounds which have hydrogen, carbon and oxygen in their building blocks. Aromatherapy is a generic term that refers to any of the various traditions that make use of essential oils sometimes in combination with other alternative medical practices and spiritual beliefs.

Aromas are used to identify the oils, to determine adulteration, and to stir the memory. Aromatherapy is already slowly getting into the mainstream. Nurses, doctors, massage therapists, osteopaths and trained aromatherapists are some of the people who practise aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is one of the most popular forms of complementary therapy and is widely used by people buying over-the-counter oils, and by health professionals in a range of settings. Various massage techniques may be used although Swedish massage is the most common. Aromatherapist will take a medical history and then determine which oil, or combination of oils, will be the most beneficial for you. Essential oils will be diluted in a carrier oil, such as almond or grape seed, and then massaged into your neck, shoulders and upper back, or given as a full body massage, or a facial. the oils should not be swallowed or otherwise taken internally, unless under expert medical supervision, as they may be toxic. Allergic reactions are also possible. It’s best to test for this by applying a small amount of diluted oil on the back of the wrist or ear lobe as test before using it fully.

Aromatherapy Scent is the most enduring of our senses. Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential and absolute oils. Essential oils are complex, highly fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility. They are the most potent and concentrated extracts of various parts of flowers, fruits, leaves, spices, roots, and woods. The plant’s essence molecules are approximately 75-100 times more concentrated as an essential oil than in the dried plant. It is a holistic treatment of caring for the body with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. It has the power to transform our emotions, and heal our bodies. The oils are obtained by steam distillation, expression (squeezing the oil from peel), maceration (immersing the plant in hot oil to release the essence) or enfleurage (pressing flowers between oiled glass plates). The essential oils are aromatic essences extracted from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds with distinctive therapeutic, psychological, and physiological properties, which improve and prevent illness.

There are about 150 essential oils. These oils are extracted by the means of steam distillation, cold expression, or fixed oil or alcohol extraction. Most of these oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. When you take “Aromatherapy massage” with the essential oils, these oils are absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin. Other properties of the essential oils which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation, relaxation, digestion improvement, and diuretic properties. To get the maximum benefit from essential oils, it should be made from natural, pure raw materials. Synthetically made oils do not work. They may also be added to steam inhalations or baths, added to compresses or spread throughout a room with diffusers. The essential oils used in aromatherapy are the life force of the plants from which they have been extracted. These oils can be massaged on your body, inhaled, added to your bath or sprayed in the air. Cold expression is used for citrus oils, and a method of solvent extraction for absolutes, concretes and resinoids. The newest technological process of extraction is the hypercritical carbon dioxide method: in part due to high cost, it is not as commonly available.

Aromatherapy uses aromatic essences that are extracted from plants. Aromatherapy is particularly effective in dealing with stress, depression and stress related disorders. ‘Depression’ is a term which encompasses a wide spectrum of psychic problems ans symtoms which, in turn, can lead to more serious illnesses. Aromatherapy, in helping to relax the patient and by reducing stress, may actually help to prevent such conditions. Depression related disorders, such as digestive problems, stress and other mental problems, can be treated by Aromatherapy. As depression is reduced, there is a corresponding improvement in sleep patterns and energy levels. In aromatherapy it is believed that the sense of smell is very powerful and directly connected to our brain, and therefore, to the hormonal activity in the body. Based on this logic, we can balance our hormones using essential oils. Many of the essential oils used for depression are from flowers and fruit. These essences have an uplifting effect on the mind and emotions. An aromatic bath two to three times per week is especially helpful for depression. Sometimes the aromatic baths are effective enough on their own as a remedy for mild bouts of depression or feeling blue.

Sandalwood is an essential oil used in yoga and in temples in many religions. It is indicated to treat anxiety, nervousness, and depression. Aromatherapy can help you relax, be energized, and create a feeling of well being. Aromatherapy is an alternative theatment that uses the highly concentrated essential oils that are extracted from plants to treat symptoms and assist in the healing process. Aromatherapy is aimed at revitalizing the body and mind while lifting your spirits. Aromatherapy will aid in promoting a sense of well being. Aromatherapy is also known for easing mental fatigue and insomnia. When you use these wonderful essential oils in the correct blend for massages, baths, diffusers and even personal perfumes you will begin to benefit from the use of aromatherapy. Using aromatherapy for depression will give you the peace of mind and the well being that you need. Bergamot (pressed from the peels of bitter oranges) has a strong reputation for its ability to uplift the mind and emotions. Bergamot has the ability to both relax the nerves and invigorate the spirit; with these actions, this important oil can be helpful for a variety of depressive condtions. Sweet orange, a close relative, works in a similar fashion, with a slightly sweeter aroma.

Aromatherapy, the treatment using scents, is one of the fastest growing fields in alternative medicine. Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential and absolute oils. Essential oils are complex, highly fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility. Aromatherapy stimulates the immune system, strengthens resistance to disease and helps to combat infections. It is widely used at home, clinics and hospitals for a variety of applications such as pain relief for women in labor pain, relieving pain caused by the side effects of the chemotherapy undergone by the cancer patients, and rehabilitation of cardiac patients. Many essential oils are also superb skin care agents – balances sebum and tones complexion – and can heal athlete’s foot, cold sores, ringworm and scabies.

Aromatherapy is also extremely useful as a first aid measure for all the little accidents most likely to happen at home – minor burns and cuts – and common problems like sore throat, blocked or stuffy nose, etc. The benefits of using essential oils are as varied as the oils themselves. Physical pain that may be caused by stress and anxiety, such as muscle cramps or rheumatism, as well as digestive problems, are thought to respond particularly well. Aromatherapy can be used in different ways. It can be used as a “pot pourrie” style fragrance where a relaxing scent is released into the air. It can also be used during a massage for a totally relaxing experience. It is important that person giving the massage be experienced in aromatherapy techniques. Roses, jasmine, lotus blossoms, citrus flowers, and lavender are just a few of the flowers that are used to create the wonderful fragrances of aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is also used as a medical aid to treat people who suffer from anxiety, stress and tension. The most common way for people to enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy at home is with an aromatherapy massage. Aromatherapy is very effected to treat stress related problems like insomnia. It has proved to work quite well on the majority of people. The benefits of aromatherapy can be dated back to ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece. These cultures have known for centuries that aromatherapy can have many properties beneficial to overall mental health. Today, most of the flowers that are used in aromatherapy are grown around Egypt. The most recent discovery is that rose oil, which has always been associated with innocence and purity. It can also be used as an aphrodisiac with the right mixture of the right oils, and have been proven to be quite effective in that role.

Aromatherapy also works by absorbing essential oils into the skin and blood stream. Aromatherapy burners or diffusers can be used in order to create a soothing atmosphere in your bedroom that helps you relax. Aromatherapy candles can scent any room and have positive effect, too. Benzoin is warming, relaxing and sedative. It is very effective for emotional exhaustion, bronchitis, tension, coughs and insomnia. Neroli is non-toxic, non-irritant and relaxing. This essential oil is very effective for panic, irritability, shock and insomnia. Sweet marjoram is very effective to treat anxiety, catarrh, muscular pain, headaches, joint pain, colds and insomnia. Jasmine is soothing and relaxing. Some essential oils must be strictly avoided during pregnancy. People with high blood pressure should avoid hyssop, rosemary, sage and thyme, while diabetics should avoid angelica oil.

All of us know that when a product gets old enough, it may loose effectively. Particularly, liquids have a tendency to get adulterated easily. So, storage is as important as is the product making or the product ingredients. Aromatherapy uses essential oils which are extracted from herbs and plants and they get spoiled if you can not store them rightly. Therefore the importance of packaging is immense in terms of aromatherapy bottles where essential oils get stored.

Aromatherapy Bottles are needed to be perfectly packaged because they contain the essential oils what serve great purposes. Aromatherapy bottles serve a number of purposes. First, they protect the oils or the absolutes and second, they add style.

Let’s go through the protection facility provided by these aromatherapy bottles. Aromatherapy uses essential oils and essential oils get easily spoiled when they are contacted to sun-rays or are exposed to direct air for too long a period. So, choosing the best bottles also needs extra caution when you choose to use the aromatherapy essential oils.

And, it’s not only about the bottles. You should not choose any clear glass-made aromatherapy bottle. The affectivity of essential oils is marred once they are exposed to the sun-rays. So, sun-rays should be barred and that’ why transparent glass bottles are to be avoided at any cost. So, you can choose amber-green coloured aromatherapy bottles or the cobalt blue ones. Regarding plastic bottles, experts are of different opinions. Some say that if plastic gets diluted into the oil, it becomes perilous while some others say that it does not have any bad effect. In fact, plastic made aromatherapy bottles are cheap enough. However, do a bit of research before going for your aromatherapy bottles of the essential oils.

One can go for aluminum made aromatherapy bottles also. There are a number of benefits attached. Here is a sum up:

    • These are capable of eluding sun-rays and

    • These are eco-friendly in comparison with plastic made aromatherapy bottles.

    • Aluminum aromatherapy bottles are cheap enough.

You can get aromatherapy bottles of different shapes as well as of different sizes. You can also order the company to make your desired curves in the aromatherapy bottles. And, these are available not only in the physical market. You can go for aromatherapy bottles in the virtual market too.

And, one more important fact which one should know before he goes for aromatherapy bottles says that you should not use rubber droppers while storing the essential oils. Rubber droppers turn into gum after the reaction with essential oils. And, use airless dispensers for better result of aromatherapy.

There are several ways for you to introduce aromatherapy in your lifestyle. You may want to add a few drops of aromatherapy essential oils in the water as you soak in the bath. Aromatherapy is a method of healing with the help of fragrance or aroma. Different types of essential oils usually produce this fragrance, which reaches the nose of the patient with the help of a diffuser or inhaler. It is important that the diffuser be of good quality or else the smells will be too less or too much and create more harm than help. Aromatherapy electric diffusers are used when you want to disperse therapeutic essential oils into the air.

Their aroma can fill a room or an area with the natural fragrance. Currently, several types of aromatherapy electric diffusers are being used. not counting the non-electric ones. Aromatherapy electric diffusers are not very costly. Some of them can even come relatively cheap, if you know how to look. They can be very useful if you don’t want to be bothered with preparing your own diffuser. Fan aromatherapy electric diffusers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. This type of aromatherapy electric diffuser uses a fan to blow the essential oils into the air. It is speedy in that the aroma from your oils is dispersed quickly into the air.

To start using a fan aromatherapy electric diffuser, place a few drops of essential oils onto a disposable absorptive pad or into a tray. The pad or tray is placed into the diffuser unit and then powered on. The air from the fan then blows over the pad or tray, carrying their aroma throughout the room. Another types of aromatherapy electric diffuser is heat aromatherapy electric diffuser. A heat aromatherapy electric diffuser is quite similar to a fan diffuser. This type of aromatherapy electric diffuser uses heat and a fan to gently heat the oil and disperse the aroma into a room. A nebulizer is not technically an aromatherapy electric diffuser.

Basically, a nebulizer is a device that takes essential oils and breaks them into separate molecules. The molecules are later dispersed into the room. A heat aromatherapy electric diffuser is quite similar to a fan diffuser. This type of aromatherapy electric diffuser uses heat and a fan to gently heat the oil and disperse the aroma into a room. Heat diffusers are advisable if you are using essential oils with thicker consistency, such as sandalwood or patchouli. You can find an aromatherapy electric diffuser that runs on batteries if portability is a concern. Some travelers like to set up their diffusers in hotel rooms to create a cozy atmosphere.
