essential oils: Whats difference between Eucalyptus and Eucalyptus Radiata?
ByI have a cold and want to get some Eucalyptus essential oil, and I always see Eucalyptus and Eucalyptus Radiata… what’s the difference?
Also, I’m going to be going to the shop so can you also suggest some other good oils that you like to put on and for what reasons?
Cheers

Different species, that are typically used the same way. The radiate usually has a lemon-y note to it. Usually a eucalyptus oil is “eucalyptus globulus” unless marked otherwise.
For colds I like pine or fir….just reminds me of walking in the woods

The ‘Eucalyptus’ is probably Eucalyptus globulus. May be known as Blue Gum
This is the most recognized and obtainable Eucalyptus. Can be fatal if large amounts are ingested. This is strongly expectorant and reduces the inflammation of the mucous membranes as well as thins mucous. Great as an inhalant when afflicted with a cold, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis etcĂ˝ E. globulous is hugely antimicrobial and effective against typhus, strep, pneuma. Just a few drops on a soapy sponge is a great way to wipe down a bathroom.
The Eucalyptus radiata is sometimes known as black or narrow leaved eucalyptus. May be called peppermint eucalyptus. There have been many names given to these plants and the botanical nomenclature is confusing. This eucalyptus is best suited for long term use to treat chronic respiratory conditions as well as the respiratory system from top to bottom. Radiata is preferred for bacterial infections and as an antiviral. This eucalyptus is the safest and easiest to inhale directly, partly because there is less cough reflex.
